Says a man who obviously never had Don Canham's Death Dogs at Michigan Stadium...

Are they anywhere near as vomit-inducing as the dogs at Legion Field? I've heard horror stories about those bad boys.

As someone formerly in the restaurant biz, this isn't hard. I used to get hit up all the time for food donations. Never for the big leagues, but definitely for a lot of minors. Give me an ad, let me distribute some coupons, and we're golden. You just have to make the effort.

The Sun Bowl stories are legendary.

If most of those stories revolve around Juarez, I can't imagine covering the Sun Bowl would be as much fun these days.

Having just been out there, I can tell you.....you want NO part of that border. None. Plus, there's plenty of debachery to be had in El Paso. :)

I know writers who have covered the Sun Bowl who swear there is nothing the PR staff there wouldn't provide for them.

If the stories I've heard were accurate, Sun Bowl officials actually procured "hospitality staff" from across the border and brought them to the media hotel.

But yeah, Juarez is not somewhere you want to go, from what I understand. More than 8,000 murders (mostly drug-related) since the beginning of 2007 ...

You know, I actually enjoyed the Legion Field dogs. Always wrapped up in foil, with sauerkraut, ketchup and mustard already on them.... mmmm goood stuff.

Yeah, I never thought the Legion Field hot dogs were that bad, either. The restroom facilities on the other hand ...

  10. Most welcomed arrival of food was after final game of 1984 World Series. With all the celebrating going on in the streets, which included setting police cars on fire, they locked down Tiger Stadium. A while after the game, the Domino's Pizza helicopter landed at second base and provided pizzas to the stranded media. Always nice to have the owner of the team own a pizza joint.

I love these stories. Someone really needs to update Pond Scum and Vultures.

What if our journalist forebears traveled to the future, found out that journalists spend time on a magical screen world posting nonsense and decrying gambling, free food and boozing?

That's happened to me at NCAA tournament games on multiple occasions.
