I liked the outcome, mainly because I was watching the game with a bunch of PC dipshits who hated the Braves because their fans did the tomahawk chop. (The chop is ignorant, BTW.)

Also, 1992 was the last season untainted by the Selig nightmare.

When Belinda came out we were fucked and everybody knew it.
    Lind's error just confirmed it.

Leyland should have thrown out Walk or Zane Smith or any starter... the bullpen was the team's most galring weakness that year.

I'm no PC dipshit but I hated the Braves (and the Seminoles) because of the 'Chop.

The Pirates should have used Stan Belinda Carlisle

I don't think Smith was available, but Walk was and he had been used in relief before. But that just isn't the kind of stuff Leyland would do, then or now.

I think since he's a convicted felon now, its okay to talk sh*t in public to Bob Costas on a former teammate. (and not get shunned in the baseball world)

Stanton was 3-for-6 at the plate that year and 8-for-24 for his career. He could hit.

Pretty much. Plus, Van Slyke's always been one of those guys --- like Curt Schilling --- who is loved by the media for his candor, but hated by teammates because he won't hesitate to rip them publicly.

I sat next to Van Slyke and one of his sons (a minor leager) on a flight several years ago. Seemed like a good guy.

Of course, Bonds left the Pirates after that game, so I take it the Pirates got to the World Series in '93 without Bonds there screwing it all up?

Van Slyke was also on the 85 Cardinals, who as we all know, accept full and complete responsibility for their choke job

The fuckin' Marlboro Man did some dreadful managing in that series as well as the 1991 series but its always much more fun to rip the guy who treated the media like shit anyways.

Leyland bashing -- a popular trend here.

The Braves were just the better team, especially in 1992 when Bonilla swallowed the poison pill by going to New York.

Well, they did win, so there is that evidence. But the Pirates did have a 2-0 lead going into the ninth inning of Game 7, so I don't think the Braves were that much better, if at all.

Leyland earned every bashing he got and still gets for that series. He's not the only one who deserves part of the blame, but he damn sure belongs on the list.
