Sorry if I threw you under the bus there, Waylon--not intentional. Just re-read your post and it really has nada to do with fantasy bball and one's own team situation.

Just wanted to point out that the fantasy topic had come up earlier in the thread.

Well that's a damn good response, buck.

The star-crossed Angels also had Matt Keough hit and nearly killed by a screaming liner in the dugout in spring training in 1990 or so.

Terrible, terrible news on Adenhart. As Poindexter said, cannot even fathom what his parents must be going thru...from feeling so proud 18 hours ago to this. RIP.

Touching story from MLB.com's Lyle Spencer:

  5. You break the laws of society, particularly repeatedly, you lose the right to belong to that society. Maybe that seems like splitting hairs from the revenge motive, but a lot of law is exactly that - parsing things down to that degree, and it has to be, really.

Damn...seeing Scott Boras cry is jarring.

Gotcher precedent right here. In 2001, eight members of the Wyoming cross country team were killed by a drunk driver. Drunk driver was 21, a UW rodeo team member, and the DUI he earned for that wreck was his third alcohol-related offense (two MIPs prior). At 21. He also was driving with an expired license, 76 in a 65 zone southbound in the northbound lane of US 287 and hit the runners' car head-on (Wagoneer vs. Dodge dually). He pleaded guilty to eight counts of aggravated vehicular manslaughter, serving 14-to-20 in prison, but is up for parole next year.

The Denver Post's front page this past Sunday had a woman with nine traffic stops in three years, including a DUI conviction, but very little time served. She was driving drunk in a wreck that killed two people on Jan. 28 (in the early morning I might add), then was arrested for driving on a suspended license a couple weeks later. Seriously? Her eighth DUI, one that involves two dead people, and they let her out of jail?

Gallo will get out on bond and probably do something stupid involving a car and alcohol. It's illegal and against the law, but everything involves shades of gray. And this crime seems to be the easiest to get away with, not to mention the worst recidivism this side of child porn.

Buster Olney's narration of an Adenhart package is the latest proof that he's so much better than anyone at ESPN, it's not even funny.

That's the type of writing that Lyle does best. And he's sincere, too: He's not just pretending to be empathetic and affected. The death of any 22-year-old is tragic, and this one seems more jarring because he was among us, hours before, doing what he does and has always wanted to do. A makeshift memorial has been set up outside the helmets, the main entrance to Angel Stadium.

In many ways, that's the best tribute to the young man yet.
