    Damn right.

I think as a tribute to that ideal, you should do everything in your life without a shirt on, pretend you're the heavyweight champion of the world, beat up an ersatz-LeVar Burton, and steal his girlfriend.

All to the stylings of Come With The Gentle People.

I would agree that Neil Young's voice isn't for everyone. But it has far more nuance and feeling than Geddy's, which often has a shreik-like quality Neil's doesn't. Geddy would be an illustration for a report on the technical profiency but ultimate lack of emotion in arena rock as a rule.

    No Lita Ford? WTF?

As for the annual debate: I can't believe Rush isn't in. They're not my favorite band by any stretch, but their chops over such a sustained period of time have to count for something. I wonder if the lack of drama has anything to do with it. They've been so reliable for so long. They're the guy who never goes on the DL, play 150 games a year, doesn't give great sound bites and records 180 hits a year for 17 years. You look up and go he's got 3,000 hits? At some point, sustained excellence has to be rewarded.

Sustained excellence, meanwhile, is everything KISS is not. Yet they've toured and made gobs of money and fucked groupies for well over 25 years, and isn't that what rock and roll is all about [/Ozzy]?

I wouldn't vote for Kiss unless Junkie held a gun to my head, and even then I'd have my fingers and toes crossed so it didn't really count. But I can see why the argument is made.

Also: Where the fuck is Cheap Trick?

Madonna - Her stage shows and use of videos changed the industry forever. There wouldn't be a Britney or Jessica Simpson without her (on second thought, no)
Chic - "Good Times" "LeFreak" - if they get in I'll freak out.
John Mellencamp - He's still cranking it out, still relevant, but I can't say he's had a huge artistic impression on music. Scarecrow puts him over the edge. He's in.
Beastie Boys - we have them to thank for Vanilla Ice and Kid Rock, nah
    Afrika Bambaataa nah
    Leonard Cohen nah
    Dave Clark Five nah
    The Ventures - nah
Donna Summer - The queen of Disco, but shouldn't her nomination go to Georgio Moroder?

I don't seen any of these artists getting on stage and "jamming" with each other.

TP, while I like JC/JM/JCM, I've always felt that his music was that of a poor man's Springsteen. He's always seemed to be a musician who was influenced by many before him (as are most musicians), but I just feel that his own work isn't something that many would think wow, his music touched me and affected me so much that I want to be able to write songs just like him.

That's all. As I said, I'm a decent fan of his stuff, but for me personally, I just don't think his music has the chops to influence others that much. He's been credible for many years -- "This is Our Country" notwithstanding -- but IMO he's kind of bland.

I'd agree with BYH about Cheap Trick and I'd think it would be a nice compliment for a band who has been a crowd pleaser for years, but they'll have to wait a bit longer, I'm afraid.

As for someone I hope NEVER gets into the RRHOF, Sheryl Crow. Can't stand her music AT ALL.

No, it's a fan of Kevin Gilbert's music. My guess is that if you were to mention that name to Crow, she's likely to either tell you to f-off or she'll run away crying (Gilbert's name that is, not Rove's).

what a disgrace that Yes and Genesis continue to be ignored by the out-of-touch record company executives that determine this stuff, that buffoon Jann Wenner and his cronies

if massive sales, brilliantly inventive songwriting, world-class musicianship, records that pioneered an enduring genre and nearly a half century of popularity isn't enough ... what is?

the R&R Hall of Fame is a joke

Every kid with a guitar between 1963-1966 who was learning to play had "Play Guitar with the Ventures." Every kid. Ergo, every U.S. rock band of the 70s owes the Ventures. They should be in.
