The biggest winner in this will be Chris Webber. He gets his timeout back.

Is Roy Williams skating on this?

Wainstein went out of his way to say Roy Williams didn't do anything wrong. Report makes it sound like Roy saw enough to think something was wrong and took action to steer basketball players away from AFAM, but that he didn't know just how bad the problem was.

A friend who's a higher-up in an ACC athletic department says titles will be vacated.

Wetzel puts the death penalty on the table in this piece. And I'd say rather convincingly. Can't recall any NCAA cheating scandal at least since the SMU days where the details caused my eyes to spin at the sheer audacity of it quite like this (some of the emails in that report are amazing stuff).

Completely agree, and it's a much larger scandal than just athletes. UNC's accreditation should probably be on the table in some areas (if you can separate it like that). I don't think we've seen this level of cheating in the modern era.

UNC is one of the premier public institutions in the country - right up there with Berkeley, UVA, Michigan, UCLA and a few others. Its academic reputation is on par with pretty much any non-Ivy in the country. It's a tremendous blow not just for UNC sports, but for the university's reputation as a whole. Making up classes out of thin air calls into question the academic integrity of the entire university and could even result in a US News drop, given that large portions of the rankings are based on peer review/reputation scores.

I hope not. This scandal saddens me. But I'm not going to burn the championship shirts, throw away the DVDs, take the down my framed bachelor's degree or quit wearing my class ring.
