It's so obvious ... ESPN is courting Lucas Wiseman. But he'll only sign if everybody at SJ is hired as well. So a year from now people reading the ESPN2 news crawl will see "ESPN's BYH reports ...."

  2. I know!

They'll sign Mitch Albom. Only so he can write another novel based on staff meetings in Bristol called "Mondays with Norby."

Considering we have not heard from BYH in more than 2 weeks -- even as his boy Beckett was extending Pube's exile -- could it be that SJ's favorite dickhead is in deep negotiatons with ESPN?

    Nah, no chance!

That would be the quickest "Big Finish" on PTI ever.

Now why would Larry Starks go from running a metro sports department to being a reporter/blogger? I don't think ESPN would pay much more than the Post-Dispatch, which is one of the best-paying gigs in the newspaper biz.

He's going to be in charge of NBA news for the TV side, which I think is what Rob King did before he became EIC of ESPN.com.

Also as part of this hiring binge, ESPN.com is looking to beef up its two copy desks. If they hire wisely, that would do a lot for the site.

Correct CNY. Larry talked about it here.

"I have resigned as sports editor in St. Louis to move to ESPN in Bristol, Conn. I've been in the Midwest, South, West. Now it's time to try that East Coast living," Starks wrote to colleagues.

"In my new gig, I will be the NBA News Editor. You all know how much I love the NBA, so this gig is right up my alley. I will be in charge of editorial decisions on ESPN and ABC's broadcasts. This is a job I'm really looking forward to."

ESPN's binge reminds me of a similar one the yankees went on a few years ago.
