Another one to ESPN - Running thread

And ESPN, to my experience, and I have some, is a cutthroat place. Deceit, pressure and double-talk are all accepted work conditions. If you're a sports journalism lifer, that's nirvana. If you're a family man trying to have a life... bon chance.

I have priced it. You're right on that count. I presume in most cases there's a spouse with bennies, or the hire is single and can simply buy coverage for him/herself.

I always thought they were two-year contracts.

Two or three. Sometimes it's two with an option (theirs).

I know a couple of the guys who took NFL blog jobs there and I'm fairly certain they get benefits. I also know that Yahoo has a similar deal where the people who went there have to get benefits on their own. It's possible that they might be doing some things for some people while not for others...

Has anyone on one of these deals been there long enough to re-up?

ESPN went into my old newsroom and took someone this week. Jill Erwin, who covered racing and did desk work in Richmond, will join ESPN.com's news desk later this month.
Super hire for them. Jill cannot be overworked. Trust me, I tried a number of times. She gets it all done and does it well.
    So congrats to Jill.

Congrats to Jill, who is a fantastic journalist and good shoulder to have a momentary breakdown on.

What, no "from the Pipeline"? Jill's gonna feel slighted. :)
