You cannot sell alcohol in many states until you reach a certain age. You also need to be a certain age to hold many public offices like President and Senator. There are minimum age requirments toi hold a teaching license and to be an umpire or referee in many sports. I'm sure there are many more, but I think that is enough.

I could add the military, CDLs and others, but you tagged safety.

Not that $75K is anything to sneeze at, but I doubt too many players would ditch a year at Kentucky for that kind of money.

You are right, but it would keep anyone's family from starving to death while they wait for the NBA or the NFL.

Mind you, we are having the 1% tail who could leave early for the NBA wag the dog here, but I think this is a very fair format for all involved.

Why should player compensation be capped at some low arbitrary figure when the television money for BCS and the NCAA tournament is in the billions?

Bidding wars between schools was my thought.

Meaning what? You're trying to prevent bidding wars? Or encourage them?

In the D-league, the night-after-night competition is WAY better than anything the NCAA can offer. You might face some individuals in some games who will become NBA players, but for the most part you're facing people who would never even sniff a D-league roster. You also would be facing equal competition each night. Davis benefits at Kentucky because he's got superior talent around him, so he can move much more freely and easily.

I guess a little of both.

We all realize Newton cost Auburn, or someone, $200,000. But giving a salary limit and a team cap would hopefully prevent a player making more than the university president.

Why does what the university president earns matter?

    Try this:

Tie player salaries to team performance.

I think you missed the part of my question where I said, "ownerhsip in any industry". All of your examples (liquor sales, etc.) are laws, not industries. There is a large difference (again) between the government creating a rule for everyone (can't sell beer until you are 20, etc.) and a private industry creating that rule (can't build cars, or write newspaper stories, until you are 30).

    http://smallbusiness.chron.com/7-eleven-franchise-requirements-3941.html

    Ensure Age and Experience
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age to be eligible to become a franchisee for 7-Eleven. In addition to an age requirement, 7-Eleven prefers that their franchisees have retail, management or customer service experience with a company within the United States.

    A. SYA currently requires its referees to be a minimum age of 14 years of age by the starting date for the respective soccer season, and with these work requirements: ready to start working immediately and consistently throughout each soccer season as this is a regular commitment for working as a member of the referee crew.

"7-Eleven" is not an industry. Please refer to the upteen posts where I made the analogy to Ford. Ford, or for that matter 7-Eleven, or for that matter the New York Knicks, can set age requirements. All the convenience stores in the country cannot collude to set that policy. Nor can the car companies. Nor can the NBA.
