I can't sit through that show. I mean, why show a bunch of marginally talented kids that'll crash out in college and be relagated to the middle of the athletic pack?

    i can't do it.

Yeah, that's why high school sports are such a washout from coast to coast.

as for the thread title, i think the point us that clearly many of us -- those with good taste, anyway -- are still watching "fnl. 8)

Nothing, nothing at all. My attempt at humor with "What's Friday Night Lights?" was meant to imply that I never watched it, so I never started watching it. That's it. Just a spoof on "Is anyone still watching it." Not highbrow stuff, I admit. :)

Shouldn't you be gobbling Scoop's cock right about now?

As Gimpy and you said that scene with Landry at the roast was extremely well done. I really can't say enough about this show. I just caught up on the last two episodes and am up to date, just a beautifully written and acted show. Landry has come on in these last two episodes to be my favorite character. The back and forth between him and Saracen, in the barber shop scene two weeks ago in particular, is great.

As for the thread title it was because people talked about the first few episodes, a few of felt it had potential but then there was a month without it being mentioned so I brought it back to find out if people had given up on the show.

And I'm tempted to go created a Scoop thread on the journalism board just to get rid of the troll.

Looking back I probably should have seen the Tyra thing coming, but it honestly had me by surprise and I was legitimately stunned when the guy came out just hauled off on her like that. I just read this on Wikipedia in the character description of Tyra: "It appears their friendship will grow as Landry appeared to comfort and help her almost immediately after *spoiler warning* Voodoo Tatum's friend attempted to rape her." I had no idea that was Voodoo's friend, did I miss something or does whoever wrote that know something we don't?

And the Lyla hitting the cars not being brought up is one little quibble I have with this show: it seems like they don't always revisit every thing that comes up, including some that seemed fairly major at the time. Am I wrong or wasn't the initial offer for a college job as the QB coach at Texas? My memory may be off, but that's what I thought happened, and then this TMU thing happened out of the blue.

One more post on this show: I love the way they weave the characters in without tying everything up neatly. It's hard to explain, but you notice it when it's done well. The gold standard in this IMO is the Wire how we get to see all of the characters and then there the brief moments when their storylines intersect and they aren't necessarily a big moment to the characters, but as the viewer you know more about the characters than they know about each other.

I don't know if that's clear, but in FNL some examples are how we get to see Riggins showing something of a soft side recently and he's even been decent to Landry while he was being tutored but at the end of the last episode Landry just shits on Riggins for all of shortcomings, even thought we know they aren't all entirely true anymore. And on the flip of this relationship, Riggins has no idea that Landry is all about Tyra so when he comes over and interrupts he doesn't think anything of it, but we all know how major that conversation was to Landry that was just interrupted.
