The back and forth between Eric and Tami Taylor is one of the greatest, most realistic husband-wife depictions in the history of TV. I think my wife summed it best: If they're not really married, they should be.

There will be several Emmy nominations for this show. All will be deserved and a few should be winners. The only thing I see standing in the way of this show winning Best Drama is the final season of The Sopranos.

Been thinking that for the last few weeks. Just unbelievably well written, and unbelievably well acted. So natural.

  3. I'm sure there are some 30-year-old former cheerleaders with low self esteem out there who hook up with HS football players. But this is portrayed as some kind of mature relationship developing. Sorry, there ain't a 17 year old out there who's ready to put on his big boy pants and play house with a 30-year-old, no matter how hot she is.

It's the only off-the-field tangent that I don't like, and it needs to go.

Aaron Sorkin could certainly benefit from watching FNL

I hear ya, but I don't think they're portraying it as such. It seems like she gave in to her womanly needs on a couple of occasions and then called it off. They're friendly because of her son and because Riggins has been a stand-up guy. I'd be very surprised if their "romance" extended beyond this season. I could see her ending up with a jerk next season and Riggins playing the part of protector for the kid and the mom.

The best scene between the Taylors was when the Coach barged into his wife's office seeking his advice on how to deal with a problem. She responded as a guidance counselor, as his wife, and as his friend. The final line: "The three of you scare me," was fantastic.

I agree, better show than I thought it would be...Zach Gilford is fantastic and plays the timid Matt Saracen really well.

Reefer on One! Marijuana on Two!
And yes, I saw that similarity too. Kept thinking the cops would show up and bust them.

Finally saw the finale last night. Was a bit disappointed we didn't see whether Coach Taylor was going to go to TMU or not - just walked in and got the love from his team at the end - but I can wait until fall for that.
The title game comeback was totally telegraphed, but I still enjoyed it.
I can see two scenarios - Taylor goes to TMU and Street comes along as a student assistant.
Taylor stays, and Street is the QB coach/offensive coordinator.
Think either of those are plausible?

I'm sorry if I'm repeating a prior comment. I haven't been able to keep up with the posts. There have been a lot in the last week...

My first impression was that Street was showing that he could be the team's head coach and Taylor was receiving the applause as if it was okay that he was leaving the team, that they still respect him.

So I sort of expect the show to really take off with a whole extra layer added. Taylor will give the show some staying power because players will be able to continue being a part of the story despite no longer being in high school. He'll be recruiting Dillon kids, and kids will be begging him for a walk-on spot, etc.

They're showing us the underbelly of high school football, and I think we're now going to get a little more of that as it relates to recruiting and the college game.

Whether Smash or Saracen or anyone else goes to Dillon is another story. I don't have any feelings on that. But I do expect someone from Dillon to go play at TMU.

And I never took it as the equal of Texas. I sort of took it as more of a TCU kind of school, or, in any case, one that is Division I but not up to such lofty standards. After all, I think any coach would go to the big state university without it being questioned.

I'm guessing, but I seriously doubt any HS team hires a crippled 18-year-old to be the HC...

    QB coach, sure... OC, maybe...

Throughout the season we've been given the impression that Street and Riggins were the only seniors that they really focused on (along with Lyla and Tyra). Saracen's a sophomore, so's Landry. Smash is a junior. Coach's daughter's a freshman.

Street's obviously staying in Dillon now that he didn't make the Murderball team.
    Riggins isn't going to college.
    Tyra's not leaving town.
The only regulars they need to figure out how to keep around are Lyla and Coach.

In Entertainment Weekly last week, Connie Britton said that next season the focus will be on two schools instead of one. That's either TMU and Dillon, or Dillon and West Canaan or whatever the name of Voodoo's school was. And yeah, they magically made Voodoo a senior at Dillon but a junior at his new school.

What I love about the show is that there aren't any throw-away characters. And they keep it that way by not trying to cram them all into every episode. So when you do see them it's for a reason.
