Anyone up for breaking a strike?

I'd just like to suggest that we try to do whatever we can to support our colleagues in Philadelphia, even if it just means a good word or a supportive post.

And any of you youngsters or wannabes out there who might think scabbing would be a great way to break into the big-time, well, think again.

Roxy Roxborough quotes early odds of 1-2 that the paper will be called the Citizens' Voice. ;)

OK, here's my supportive post: GOOD GOD, DON'T DO IT!

When was the last successful newspaper strike?

Please, call someone in Youngstown, Seattle or Detroit. Ask them how it went.

By all means, negotiate hard. But don't strike. It will end badly. I promise.

Anyone know what the status of negotiations are?
The Philadelphia Newspaper Guild hasn't updated its website http://www.local-10.com/

I know, you're best friend is a scab. Well good for you, you must be very proud. But the fact is you don't know a damn thing about negotiating a contract if you're suggesting something as stupid as "...negotiate hard, but don't strike." At the end of the day, striking, while a last resort that NOBODY really wants, is the only leverage that the employees have and it would be ridiculous for the union to take that off the table.

Don't take it off the table. Make it a threat, if that helps. Just don't do it. It's suicide. You don't have to be a management lackey to see that.

See, venom like that doesn't cross your path in day-to-day life.

How is it a legitimate threat if you'll never do it?

Don't confuse the issues. This is something else.
