Kudos Moondoggy. And congrats to all of the above folks, including some co-workers and a favorite columnist (ducky=John Canzano fangirl).

Is the small paper Borges related to Ron?

Congrats to all the winners, especially the young folks in the smaller categories. Like them or not, smaller paper winners have just gotten a big boost toward landing that next gig. I know how much winning in the past has helped me.

I only have one real bitch about the contest. I just find it curious when columnists win in the game story category. Maybe they're true bylined gamers from the Olympics, but my opinion is that if your picture runs next to it, it ain't a gamer.

I wasn't a winner, but my section did all right. So that's a good thing.

OK Milo, maybe you can write both columns. ;D First place in Colorado, now an APSE Top 10. Congratulations.

Congrats to all the other winners, too.

I'll have to heed Lynn Hoppes' advise and get my "failure" of an ass back up and maybe get lucky next year.

Frank, I concede most points to you.

On this, maybe you'd better leave the subject to those who actually deal in the genre.

I heard that Gannett papers did not attend the judging. Can anybody confirm that? Were there any? Just a handful?

  10. USA Today was in the house, I am told.

  11. The 100-250K column field is stronger than the one for the bigger papers, I'm thinking.

You would have lots of ammo entering into that argument (Calkins, Fennelly and O'Connor is a hell of a threesome just off the top).
