I know some people in the Memphis area who have interacted with the Thuoys a few times in social settings.* I've never really cared enough to ask an opinion, but now I just might.

*Not know them, just introduced and chit chatted a bit.

A story I recently had published caught the attention of a representative of a pretty well known production company. After talking to the person for a little over an hour; I reached out to a couple of people I have talked to previously who are in the industry and both said do everything you can to protect the intellectual property, because if they can find a way to exclude you, they will.
It’s possible he was told he would get something and they just bullshitted him.

In the book it is mentioned Sean Tuohy was overleveraged and on the verge of losing his restaurants until Taco Bell rolled out the chalupa and sales exploded. Elsewhere I read that he went from over 100 locations owned to 11 today. Does the family have trouble managing money?

I haven’t seen the movie and there is lots to unpack. In the ESPN article it said that at one point his representative was a lawyer who had represented the Tuoheys in the conservatorship. So that’s dicey.

I read the book, and throughout I found myself thinking that if Oher was just a regular kid and not an obvious athlete, he wouldn’t have been staying with the Tuoheys.

    It’s hilarious.

Whenever I see a black kid walking alone, I pull up next to him and check his 40 time. If it’s under 4.3, I scream, ‘Get in the car! I’m your new father!’ ”

When I saw the movie the first time and they were talking about how any Taco Bells he owned, I wondered how much how much profit for the ultimate owner does a fast food franchise turn each day. I don't even know if because of the mechanics of business you can think of it that way. It just seems that if you own dozens of franchise, you've got to be rolling. Obviously overhead and everything eats into the gross, but the net for the business owner has to be pretty nice.

When I read that he went from 100+ to 11, I just assumed he figured it was time to reap the cash from all the franchises while he still had time to enjoy the money. Also figured his son and daughter may not have wanted the headache of dealing with them.

The son runs the NIL collective at UCF. Probably not an ideal role if athletes are going to wonder whether they can trust you to have their best interests at heart.

    It’s not that simple.

I’ve had several franchise owners as clients. McDonald’s is the absolute best. If the owner follows direction from corporate and works hard, they will make good money.

Everything below that is a drop off. The thing is, you can only be in one store at once, so finding and paying good managers is required, but also difficult. Ever been in a BK or Wendy’s and it’s not that busy and there are 6 workers not looking busy, hardly and customers and it’s a disaster? That owner isn’t printing money. In my city I think I’ve been in 4 Wendy’s and I don’t understand how 3 of them stay open.

A vicious circle can develop where the owner doesn’t have the income to pay for good managers, and the business is losing money and needs a firm hand.
