To be honest, I am more concerned about the lack of reading skills prevalent among the people my age and younger I meet. It seems like no high schools force kids to actually read books anymore.

 

Flash, I suppose one can be in both groups.

 

Don't have to tell me ... my friend's husband is chair of a university's journalism department. She regales me with stories about the atrocious writing passed in BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS!

Bad enough some can't tell you when the Declaration of Independence was signed. But they can't decipher basic sentence structure? Aye yi yi!

And by the way ... neither of my elder brothers is using his physics degree. For the matter, my younger brother isn't using his forestry engineering degree.

But guess who went on to be a writer?

I'm actually much dumber than I let on. I fake intelligence, or at least competence, very well.
