Good point. But I'm sure someone will be quick to offer the usual well-worn tidbit about "This is the business we're in."

There is no Assistant Sports Editor here in Richmond, so I would definitely say there is an opening here at the Times-Dispatch. There is no official listing on the BH Media site as of now. But Steve said he'll be in Knoxville in three-ish weeks. So I don't imagine there being a listing on the site as the higher-ups here in the RVA are going to move fairly quickly on making a hire.

I'm happy for Steve, and I wish him the best. It's been a pleasure working for him these last two years. He has helped me improve my writing so much in my short career. I know he'll do great things in Knoxville.

How far in the process did you get? Phone or in-person interview? Yes, then you should be told of the notice of a hire.

You were acknowledged that your application was received and nothing more? No, you don't deserve anything more of the process. Would it be nice? Sure. I'm guessing there were 100-plus applications submitted for this.

I got an email saying I wasn't being considered because I worked at a paper with too small a circulation. While I was taken aback with the bluntness (plus the fact it I used to work at a 100,000+ paper) I at least appreciated being told I wasn't a candidate.

Job-hunting and the sad state of HR professionalism in the industry is indeed frustrating, but I'm with steveu on this -- Kaplan was a stand-up guy during this long and winding search. I sure appreciated his quick responses and candor, and wish the folks in Knoxville good luck.

Look through any of the threads for jobs in Knoxville and you'll find Phil is very good at updating the board as to how the process is going.

Exactly. Anyone knocking Phil on his communication regarding jobs is pretty much out of order. One of the more stand-up SEs not only here but in the country.

It took only a page to get to the predicted outcome. Want a response if you're a job applicant? Well, you're just stupid. These guys will tell you why!
