I have had the same problem ... lately, it's sheer willpower that works for me. When I'm about to bite my nails, I force myself to stop and think, if I don't stop this now, I'm never going to stop.

What does it mean that I had to search for 'Trophy Wife' to find this thread? 8)

I know we have some Coach lovers here, there's some good stuff on Hautelook.com, a sample sale site. You have to register first, but it's a decent collection of designers.

(I blame ijag entirely for getting me hooked on these sites, like ideeli and others. I've bought some great stuff at amazing prices!)

    You're...welcome? :D

I always search for "women of SportsJournalists.com" and it's usually somewhere near the top. Yeah, I get daily e-mails from hautelook.com, but I am so broke I don't even bother opening them for fear of bad decisions.

Speaking of clothes, I got a free 'Slumdog Millionaire' T-shirt from an Armenian woman at the farmer's market last weeked.
I gave her a tangerine, and she gave me the shirt.

    Okay, I need fashion advice.

I'm going to a cocktail event in a could of weeks in a black-and-ivory dress (high waist, ivory from the waistline up, scoop neck and strappy sleeves). I think need a way to add color to this look. I worry about getting new shoes because I'm going to be on my feet for 4+ hours, and the makeup I use, while effective, is very much about blending and natural colors.

I am perhaps the most fashion-challenged woman in the world and have no idea where to start. Any advice? Or is it okay to just play with the black and white idea without any color?

I'm a big fan of black/ivory, very elegant. No reason to add color unless you really want to...and then you can do it with either a) jewelry, or b) lipstick.

Lipstick can be a disaster unless you really know what works for you. If you're going with jewelry, one major piece...you can't do a big necklace and big earrings and big bracelet.

But really, the dress sounds lovely by itself. How about a bold nail polish?

Nail polish is a great thought. I've got great natural fingernails for something like that, and it's a casino-night style event where hands will be very visible while playing blackjack.

Bold like... red? I'm a sucker for the deeper, nearly maroon reds on my toes, though I usually leave my fingernails natural. I would definitely be wary of lipsticks because I'm pale and can end up looking very goth/vampire. I might go for the nail polish with more subtle jewelry.

Now, if only I could find pretty shoes that I could also stand in for four hours...

If you want something dark but reddish, I just got Thigh-Hi over a coat of Dirty Dancing. Gorgeous. Also a big fan of Trophy Wife, Berry Hard, and Sassy Satchel.

Why don't you go to a department store and get a little make-over before your event? Me & a bunch of girlfriends once went to a MAC store before a concert and got all fussed over. We spent a ton of money and looked gorgeous!

I just needed to vent about how stupid I feel when I go clothes shopping. I needed a dress the other night for an upcoming conference, and I couldn't tell for the life of me what was professional and what was more suited for a wedding or party. I need shoes as well and that sucks because it's very hard to find anything in my size (11W). I need to branch out beyond the few colors of pants I have, but I just don't know what I can pull off.
