No, it isnt necessary to report questions not answered when it is common knowledge that juveniles are treated differently by the law. Not when it is common knowledge the DA and/or cops aren't going to reveal everything they know before charging the suspects with the crime.

You're looking for a conspiracy that simply isn't there. Anybody who has worked the cops beat doesn't find this lack of info in the first couple days as anything but SOP.

OK, but answer the question: Is racial animus a frequent enough motive that it must be mentioned every time, like drugs and alcohol in vehicle fatalities, or, if not, there should be a good reason that it is not? In other words, are you requesting that we change the default?

It's also absurd for the media to bend over backwards to try and correct what they see as an overestimation of the threat posed by African-Americans against middle class whites.

...because in the 1950s, newspapers used to do that, but they would only do it when the alleged criminal was, in the words of the day, a "Negro". Don't tell me it didn't happen because I saw the newspapers while doing a college research project. It is just like when writers used to write about Roberto Clemente using phrases like "Thees ess a berry goood day" which looked like an effort to make Clemente look stupid. The same writers wouldn't use the supposed dialogue for, say, Polish and Italian players or players from the South.

The newspapers stopped this because it was racial and ethnic profiling, although those terms had not yet been invented. Also, it is a disservice to your readers because it distracts from what ever the point of the quote was.

To sum up, YF, it was prejudiced and ignorant. And if the shoe fits....

Whites are the victims of crimes committed by young black youth in downtown Chicago on a regular basis. The Taste of Chicago has been a shit show in recent years, and has been cut back.

The McDonald at State & Chicago is notorious. iPhone thefts on Michigan Ave., Oak Street Beach, and on the CTA happen regularly.

If there is a pattern of the victims being white, and the criminals being African-American, should that be reported?
