But he has an understanding as a reader and perhaps that matters more. Perhaps
part of the reason that newspapers are failing ( outside of digital age ) is
that they are not giving the readers what they want and are stuck in a "that's
how it's always been done mode.

YF clearly is well read and what he is articulating are the inconsistencies and
manipulative nature of some news outlets. He's not wrong and the technique
is offputting to those intelligent enough to recognize it.

His mother is white. His father is black.

James Edwards is black. Michael Jones is white.

So how would you sum up the racial makeup of the killers/victim for headline purposes?

Do I feel like race was turned into a bigger issue in the Martin case than it should have been? Yes.

"Activists" were aided by the media (NBC editing the tape, the Times inventing the term White-Hispanic) in fanning the flames. That was wrong.

But, once it was seized on by activists, it was also inevitable that race would be a focus in the case.

It's also inevitable that race will be a part of this case. To prretent otherwise is absurd. And to try to avoid it, for fear of playing into the hands of racists is wrong.

In the Martin case race was irrelevant till the Martin family and their attorneys brought it
up 2 weeks after.

Here is the first article from the Orlando Sentential. Albiet 3 days after the murder took place. No mention of race.

Boom, I posted those stories a few pages back. I don't even think it was the Martin family that made race an issue. I'd be interested to watch their press conference. Did they even bring it up? The Sentinel story on it barely mentions race. From the research I've done, the African-American blogosphere brought the race issue to the forefront, not the Martins.

I would take your observation one step further. Not only was race irrelevant to the Martin case until the family's press conference. The Martin case was irrelevant until the family's press conference. The story was over, if it had ever started, really.

Martin's Attorney put the race card into play. There was no reason for the Zimmerman case
to become the national circus that it was.

Race may play no role at all in this story. The racial makeup of the killers suggests that it may not have, though their motives are more important than their own racial background.

It's indisputable, however, that the question of race is a current focus, and needs to be addressed.

And, that was foreseeable from the get go.

I also find it interesting that so many folks are desperate to avoid addressing the issue in this case, and would question the reasons for the interest in race that many have, but didn't find the focus on race in the Zimmerman case to be misplaced.

Because I wanted the folks jumping to conclusions to get egg on their face.

I always root for comeuppances in that situation, whether it's people automatically assuming Muslims did this or that Lance Armstrong is clean or that Ryan Bruan is innocent.
