11 days. 11 days until race was mentioned. Then, five inches later, dismissed. 11 days.

The "non-opinion media" became extinct sometime around 1973.

You do realize that newspapers were used as propaganda outlets 200 years before that, right?

Fully understand that. But somewhere along the line the media sold the public on their function being an unbiased watchdog. I assume you were taught that in J-school.

Now there's all kinds of dog and not much watch.

Was boredom given as the original motive?

Was it a completely random shooting?

In the Zimmerman case, he called the police prior to the shooting. They didn't know each other, but the shooting wasn't random either.

How would you write it? Just ask the police if they suspected that race was a motive, then write that sentence: "Police do not believe, at this time, that race was a motive."

Q: Why did they do it?
Police chief: They said they were bored.

"Asked a motive, the police chief said the suspects said they were 'bored.' However, he specifically did NOT rule out race as the REAL motive."

Greenhorn's first rule of media criticism: before delving into any topic, learn how to spell Australian correctly.

"Austrialian" might have to do with Vienna.

Where do these stories get a lot of coverage? The 24-hour news channels? I read the NYT in the morning, and news mags in the evening. They barely make a ripple in those places.

Where did you come up with 1973? Watergate? Vietnam?

Our prisons are filled with people who do these things. If the New York Times and and the news mags gave all of these crimes the same over-the-top coverage, they wouldn't have time to cover anything else or space to publish it.
