Two times now you have claimed the main thrust of the reporting on the Trayvon Martin incident was, at first, about the disparity in age between the two. You have provided nothing to even remotely prove this. The pictures were there to show what the two looked like, not for any, "look, this guy was older than the os other guy" reason. One being older than than the other had nothing to do with anything...not then, not now, not ever. I have no idea why you would try to make this claim...what kind of reason you have other than to try to get people to ignore the race baiting that was quickly going on in the entire ordeal.

Other than when the victim is an 88 year-old man brutally beaten to death by teens, age rarely plays into anything like this.

I cannot understand how this is a debate. The entire thrust of the story was that Martin was a unarmed teen-ager munching on Skittles while walking back to his dad's house.

Seeing as Trayvon towered over Zimmerman you can stop playing the "big, bad adult" vs. "little kid" theme any time. No one else ever played it.

That was not the point you were making. There was no comparison of ages of the two...Zimmerman's age did not matter. Thus, the disparity did not matter. That's my point.

That precise framing of the story was the biggest objection to the way the story was covered, for precisely the reason you mention.

Now, you guys may not like that age disparity was a component of the story. And it perhaps wasn't fair that it was a component of the story. But it was a component of the story, right or wrong.

How can you possibly say this? Zimmerman was a neighborhood watchman. By definition, that's an adult. Martin was a kid. That's a big reason the story took off. How is this even a debate?

Dick, you are wrong. Notice the lack of people jumping in to support what you are saying? Like I asked, please show me an early story discussing the adult vs. kid angle, and how that was important.

It was an unarmed person fighting with an armed person, who pulled his gun and shot him dead. Then walked free.
This turned into an unarmed black kid with Skittles and tea being hunted down by a mouth-breathing, racist "white-Hispanic" that could not wait to kill himself a black kid, and got away with it because of our racist country. This meme came thanks to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

No where was anyone talking about how the 10-11 years between them was newsworthy or a big deal. Nowhere. Again, I may be wrong but would like proof since you brought it up twice and defended it.

The age difference was played up, but I'm not sure it would have mattered, if the race card wasn't played first.

It was portrayed as white man, who stalked and murdered an innocent and defenseless black [/i]child[/i]. It's "every Mother's worst nightmare".

It made it worse, but the case wouldn't have gotten any traction if activists, and later the media, hadn't first decided that George Zimmerman could be portrayed as a white man, and not an Hispanic. If George Zimmerman went by Jorge Mesa, or if he looked just a little more Hispanic, then the activists would never have made a peep about this case.

The liberal coalition is just that -- a coalition. And, for it to stay united, its members have to support each others causes, and can't attack one another politically. (African-Americans get a pass on supporting gay rights, but it's a rare exception.)

So, the issue of violence towards the LGBT community coming from young African-American males will go unexplored. And, Harlem and will continue to be unsafe for transgenders.
