Sweet Jesus, you are not this dumb. That video reminds me of all the birther ones on YouTube.

But, sure, Trayvon put $20 on the floor of the 7/11 - instead of handing it to the guys. Sure, the cops found the blunts on him - but decided to trash them.

Nah, it can't be a coincidence that happened. Nah, Martin couldn't have been standing under the awning of the store because it was raining. Nah, he could NOT have known those three guys at all.

    From Charles Blow column:

"Zimmerman apparently pursued him anyway, at some point getting out of his car and confronting the boy. Trayvon had a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea. Zimmerman had a 9 millimeter handgun. "

Sometimes a terrible lede is a terrible lede, and nothing more. Lord knows I've seen (and written) my fair share of them.

George Zimmerman being in alcohol counseling is an indisputable fact, as well. Why wasn't that in the lede?

And, just to address the other meme, I present another "white Hispanic":

If the "can of iced tea" wasn't relevant, then why was it mentioned so frequently in news accounts?

And, why were the skittles relevant? And, make no mistake, the skittles were relevant. They were mentioned in nearly every article, and they must have been in the talking points, because Trayvon's supporters mentioned them in every media appearance.

The whole fucking world knows he bought skittles, but no one knows what drink he bought. That's odd.

But, the skittles were important because they humanized Trayvon, made people relate to him. He was a kid out buying candy, like your own son or grandchild might have done. It was even a sort of childish candy choice.

And, so with the importance of the skittles already assigned, we could not look into why he might have bought skittles, and "iced tea".

And, again, the media is happy to pitch us these stories full of "humanizing" elements when it serves their purpose, but even you questioned the relevance of reports that the recently murdered 88-year-old man was a WWII veteran.

Why would we include, or make a big deal out of that?

Well, maybe because it would make us relate to him, remind us of our fathers, or grandfathers who served in the was, and who grew old, and vulnerable.

And, maybe people would get angry about such a senseless murder.

But, the media doesn't want to push his story, because the wrong people -- the mouth breathers -- would get angry.

So would Derek Jeter be a "white African American" ?

    The Skittles weren't relevant either.

I have been informed that the age disparity between Martin and Zimmerman was not an element of the coverage.

    Forget the commentary.

When the traditional media ignores a story, you do get kooks among the investigators.

But, every teenager I know has stood outside a store, looking for someone who might buy beer for him. I did it. You probably did too.

Trayvon comes up to the counter with the skittles and "tea", and has a conversation with the clerk. Clerk motions to the products behind him, but doesn't sell any of them to him.

Trayvon gets out more money than he needs, and leaves with money in his hand.

Thenext group of customers buys the item the clerk motioned towards, as Trayvon hangs around outside.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to assume he asked them to purchase them for him.

Trayvon only leaves right after the one fellow comes outside, several minutes after his own transaction is completed.

And, look at the timeline. It takes him a while to (nearly) complete a very short round trip. And, he was found with THC in his system.

It's very easy to suppose he smoked, and tossed his blunt, and was headed home to enjoy some lean.

    Now you're being ridiculous.

Why was an irrelevant piece of information included in so many stories, including Blow's column, and the Times lede? How'd it get there, and why'd it stay a part of the narrative all the way through the trial?

Either, they were relevant (and to Trayvon's supporters, and the activists, they were), or the media was lazy, and just repeated the story as originally told, all the way through the trial.

I'm happy to criticize either answer you might provide.
