You're right. They don't need to email around a narrative.

They only need to read it in Charles Blow's column in the New York Times. Then, the narrative is set, and the rest of the media can use it as a template.

So, the narrative is written, and "pitched" to influential, and sympathetic, media members like Blow.

No one had to package a narrative for the the national media to prompt the police to arrest Mark David Chapman.

And, what Martin had on him wasn't important, except that his supporters made it important. They included it in the narrative, because they thought it helped to sell it.

That one of the two items he was reported to be carrying was misidentified, and not corrected makes it important as far as the media's coverage and credibility is concerned.

And, what would the reaction have been, if influential media member, Dick Whitman, had made that statement on a Cable Shout Show during the heat of the coverage?

I'm guessing he would have been lambasted as a racist for suggesting such a thing.

But, let's see if anyone else is convinced. Does anyone else agree with Dick?

(My guess is that they'll all pull an oop and refuse to "speculate" because it's irrelevant" and can't be proved.)

I don't give a fuck if Blow was pitched a story or not. He's a hack opinion columnist, in no way reflective of the media as a whole.

And, for the record, here's what I think happened:

Zimmerman confronted Trayvon.
Trayvon reacted the way any of us would react if it happened without provocation: "Get the fuck out of my face."
Maybe Trayvon pushed him.
Zimmerman got scared and shot him.

I really don't care if he was on his way to make purple drank, and I have no reason to have an opinion one way or another. Again, he could've had Sprite - if I need to question that, I need to question everything.

What color socks did he have on? Why hasn't anyone reported on that?

You could not be more wrong and, frankly, ignorant. The 'media' is not some gestalt that operates as a unit. The 'media' is a lot of individuals doing their work.
