And, seriously, would someone like to tell me why Charles Blow, Jonathan Capehart, and the rest of the media is less interested in the Islan Nettles narrative than they were in the Trayvon Martin narrative?

Has no one tweeted the details of Nettles' -- sorry, Islan, always use the fist name in the narrative to personalize the victim -- murder to Blow.

Normally, they'd love this story. They'd get two bangs for their buck. Islan was both African-American and transgendered. A double minority, and the victim of a hate crime.

Does Islan's family need to hire the right PR person to get the story some traction, or is there something missing it her narrative that doesn't sell it? Is there something that makes the media uncomfortable with the narrative?

Is it just that it lacks a racial component, or does the fact that it was a black on black crime not fit anyone's agenda?

I sure hope I never write that someone had a bag of those Cheetos that make your fingers orange when in reality they had the fiery Cheetos that make your fingers red. That would be the same sort of conspiratorial, ruinous oversight that YF is talking about.

There are many, many differences.

First and foremost is that an arrest was made immediately. The biggest engine driving the Martin story was a lack of an arrest. If George Zimmerman had been arrested that night, or the next day, you never hear about Trayvon Martin. There is no doubt that in Nettles's case, a crime was committed. In Zimmerman's case, because of the lingering question of whether a crime was committed, particularly because a controversial law seemed to sanction his action, there was such doubt. That's why the story took off.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The media is hardly uncomfortable with trans gendered people. They are a current cause celebre. The New Yorker had a piece this year about whether teen-age sex reassignment surgeries are appropriate. The NYT has reported, on A1 I think, about the explosion of colleges extending rights, sometimes under their health insurance plans, to trans genders.

And, you know Dick says its rediculous for the media to focus on the race of either the victims, or perpetrators of various criminal acts for no reason.

MC says only racists are interested in the race of the criminal.

So, maybe they're right.

As Dick pointed out, the original stories about Trayvon's death were brief, and didn't focus on race. And, it didn't draw the interest of the national media.

But, once the narrative was composed -- Trayvon was black, and Zimmerman wasn't -- we had a "powerful" enough story to get national media types like Sharpton and Blow involved.

But, if race doesn't matter, why did the story only blow up after race was injected by paid PR professionals?

Of course race matters. But that doesn't extrapolate to, "Race always matters."

Race mattered in Martin's case because it touched on the idea of racial profiling of young black men, which is already in the news constantly because of stop-and-frisk.

What if I told you that Nettles killer was only booked on assault charges and is currently out on bail. He has not been re-arrested since she passed away.

Why is no one clamoring for "justice" for Islan?

This is right in Blow's backyard. This is in the media capital of the world.

Capehart is black and openly gay. Does he not empathize with her?

And, violence against gays and transgenders is up in New York City, so it has a "trend" component, and they could focus on the societal aspect of why the LGBT community faces so much violence at the hands of African-American males.

But, if this story happened in Wyoming, at the hands of a couple of white cowboys, you could be sure a PR team would have already been assembled, and they'd have already pitched the Times and the Washington Post.

Who's pitching Islan's narrative, and why is no one buying?
