    3 ruptured discs

Had microdiscectomy 2 years ago and am almost good as new

Occasional gankiness in lower back but nothing like the presurgery pain

I would say of it does come back again, check out a chiropractor. I've been going to one lately and it has made a world of difference, made life liveable again. It will also help you with your bad posture. Dropping weight also helps and building your core muscle group which supports and gives strength to your back. My back flares up every few months and is quite dibilitating. Hopefully yours doesn't again.

I actually have a "Costanza wallet" that my wife has told me to get rid of for years and does change how I sit.

I've gotten this spasms on and off for a decade. No traumatic event, it just happens. At times I can't walk. I don't have a weight problem.

This past june was the worst yet. I finally went to a chiropractor. I had a slipped disc. He was very good in helping me recover. After a few weeks, though, it turned into sciatica. The nerves that run through my legs were being compressed in my back. Tingling and numbing. Sleep was miserable, my legs just hurt.

It finally went away, thank god. But I was worried I was going to have long term problems. I thank heavens every day that I am recovered.

You will be given core exercises to do (leg lifts, planking) do them.

And btw, you can read that EVERYTHING hurts your back. Especially sitting.

Definitely need to move the Costanza wallet to the front pocket. That helped me a lot ten years ago.

I haven't had a ton of luck with chiropractors. The adjustments feel good but don't seem to last that long. I've had back and neck issues, and exercise most certainly put an end to all of it. I can feel it in my neck and back now that I have been off the gym routine for quite a while. And basketball is not good for my back at all, with all the leaning forward.
And how is it that Small Town Guy has an apartment in NYC? :)

Couldn't agree more. I feel it every time I don't wear a jacket and have no choice but to out it in my back pocket. Even still, if I'm at my desk, I take it out and put it on or in my desk or I put it in the glove box if I'm driving. Screws everything up.

The standing desks are a big thing in my office right now. I haven't gone that far, but I've certainly thought about it.

Ever consider it could be a pinched nerve? I had one 7-8 years ago and it was awful. Locked my back up to the point I couldn't stand up from a chair and I got spasms as well, although not to the point I had to call 911. Chiropractor fixed me right up but it took about six weeks of treatments three times a week. Now I go semi-regularly to maintain. Chiropractor was the one who figured it out. Might want to check that out. And as somebody said, use ice. It's your best friend.

Do a YouTube search for "Feldenkrais" and you will find a whole bunch of videos with stretches and exercises that are fantastic.

I found one for helping with a stiff neck and was amazed by the immediate results.

See a spine specialist. I have EXTENSIVE expertise in this area (none that I wish to post online) but feel free to PM me.
