Teachers who sever their students' spinal cords should totally be fired.

Yeah, YF, but that reason's not necessarily a good one ... The word starts with a p, it ends with an s, and we're not allowed to talk about it around here.

I'd need to see the rubric, first.

The greatest job perk I ever had wasn't free travel while working for an airline, it was an NYPD parking pass. But, nearly all of lower Manhattan was not eligible for use of the permit (mainly because there were so many who worked in lower Manhattan who had them, that it would have been unworkable, though the Feds still parked anywhere they fucking pleased).

Yeah, but the cop in Baltimore isn't responsible for enforcing financial cries on Wall St.

He can only do what he can do.

Like I said, I'm all for enforcing minor infractions on Wall St. But they're different jurisdictions.

The van transporting Gray made a "second stop" that wasn't know about until investigators learned about it as a result of a "private camera" that recorded the stop.

    Not good.

Nothing good happens in a van.

Politics also account for why some of these NYPD guys were passed over for top jobs in NYC, which led them to take jobs leading other police forces.

I think Howard Safir was a good Police Commissioner, and was highly qualified, but a lot of people were pissed that Timoney was passed over. New York's loss became Philadelphia, and then Miami's, gain.

And who determines who the bad principals are? And who determines who the bad superintendents are? How are these determinations made? Saying "every principal knows who the bad teachers are" is simplistic and unproductive toward reaching a solution.

I'm not sure exactly what it is you are advocating. That school principals be given the authority to fire teachers they deem to be "bad?"

I understand you are alluding to union protections as the reasons bad cops and bad teachers don't get fired, but they are not analogous. Again, there are objective measures and performance standards, as well as ethical and legal codes of conduct that all go into evaluating a police officer's success or failure to perform his or her duty.

Objective or standardized measures to evaluate teachers are problematic at best. I agree we need to find a solution if we want to improve our education system. But if you know anything about working in a school system, you'd know that giving a principal carte blanche to fire any teacher he or she deems "bad" is a terrible idea (if that is what you are advocating).

Anyway, all of that really is a separate discussion.

Oh, and please don't appoint me as a spokesperson for "The Left." :D

Side note: I'd refrain from citing Timoney in defense of your point. Let's just say it's much easier to "enforce the law" when you completely disregard people's civil liberties.

Funny how there are no banking unions, but they all sure look out for and cover for each other too huh?
