They probably thought that they were safe from getting pawed. Not that there's anything wrong with listening to Air Supply.

    Sorry. Kansas was great.
The E Street Band -- does that count?
So I guess Kansas would be my answer to the central question of this thread. From Song for America to Point of Know Return, they kicked butt through 4-5 terrific albums.

And you can see them for no cover at the Circle Tavern in Brigantine, NJ.

No Robbie Steinhardt = no Kansas.

Ryan Adams is the under the radar guy and as far as I know has ever had a mainstream hit. I was referring to Bryan Adam's "Summer of 69" as a song about a position that still seems kind of lame.

Nickleback, Not so much their latest album, but beyond that big a fan.

And I second Wenders with Garth Brooks -- he is still my all time favourite -- although I even like SOME of his Chris Gaines stuff -- Yes I am the one -- the key is to just get beyond the screwed up persona, you do that and the music gets more palatable.

Lets see now, other stuff that would fit this thread. Bif Naked I have always liked. There's something catchy about a lot of Avril Lavigne's music -- very much a guilty pleasure -- and I am big on Alanis Morisette. I think I got the Canadian female rock list covered there.

I find myself with a growing appreciation for 90s music, universally trashed, but would rather listen to it than just abou, but then I don't like the Bon Jovi of today, just their early stuff.

Oh, and Meatloaf. Always killed by critics, but he has a long list of great songs, of course mixed in with some dreck, but who doesn't?

Talking about early material bands put out over on another thread got me thinking.

I like early Yes and Jethro Tull. Stuff like Yessongs and Aqualung. Going into the late 70s they lost me, but before that I liked their stuff. Still do.

Seems like Yes gets lost in the RRHOF conversations for the most part, but they were huge at one time.

Dang! I knew I was leaving out a pretty good band named after a state. Yep... They have some great stuff...

Love me some Tull. You know a certain blues musician does a fair to middling cover of a Tull jam, right, MH? :)

    Why thankyouverymuch.

Not sure why anyone could hate Elvis' music.

Back in the day, guys tended to hate him because the girls went crazy over him.

Then he became the butt of jokes and the embodiment of Southern kitsch.

More old man stories..saw Tull in the early 70s with my group of friends. After that, every time Tull came on one of my friends would go full-bore Ian Anderson along with the song. Every fucking time, and right in your face.

And yeah, we were most likely in an alterted state. Didn't help, though.
