    Interesting.

    I've never heard of this.

I've got to go give a listen and compare.

At one time I was big on Zappa.

You know, Styx has gotten a lot of shit from critics over the years, but they're cool enough in my book. Good musicians, enjoyable songs.

Plus, once upon a time, had the chance to interview James "JY" Young, one of the real fun characters of Chicago's western 'burbs.

Another old rocker I'd love to interview: Paul Kantner, of Jefferson Airplane/Starship fame. Always have liked his whacked-out, sci-fi songwriting. "We Can Be Together" might be one of the most underrated 1960s rock anthems.

Couldn't stand Styx, who were very popular when I was in high school. Only song of theirs I can stand is "Renegade".

No fan of the Airplane/Starship but I think it was Kantner who, in a letter to the editor printed in Rolling Stone, responded to the mag's rip of one of their albums by saying only, "Fuck you, we do what we want." That line later showed up in the Starship's "Stairway To Cleveland". Gotta love that.

Machine Head mentioned Zappa. I know some people who are major Frank fans, he was tremendously influential among guitarists. I like a lot of his more "mainstream" stuff, if that's ever a word that applied to Zappa, like Joe's Garage and Sheik Yerbouti but a lot of his stuff is just not accessible. It's pretty out there.

Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation are the Zappa albums I like. Wish they were on iTunes.

Cruisin' With Ruben and the Jets is an awesome Zappa doo-wop album. He could do anything.

    Very talented man.

I just googled up the lyrics to "I'm the Slime" for kicks. I wonder what he would say about TV today?

I worked in local TV for a spell, so don't jump me, TV folks 8)

I have a CD with both albums on it. Great Stuff, especially Apostrophe.

As for Styx, "Miss America" is on a compilation CD I've been listening to lately. Puts "Renegade" to shame.

Would he even have to change the lyrics?

Also, Problems Everyday could easily pass today except change the part about a "joker with a brownie" would have to be updated.

Oh yeah. When we were in college, me and my buddies used to be able to do the whole Yellow Snow>Nanook Rubs It sequence from memory.

Haha, exactly. "He started in a whippin' on my favorite baby seal with a lead-filled snowshoe. With a lead, with a lead-filled snowshoe. And he hit him on the nose and he hit on the fin and he went Whap! with a lead-filled snowshoe." LOVE those lyrcis.

Air Supply is great ... Normally right uup there with Hootie and the Blowfish on groups I love that 98 percent of people I know absolutely hate or say I'm "gay" for listening to. I say they just don't appreciate good music - f'n techno loving freaks.
