Oh, God that was some funny shit...I had to quit halfway through the posts because the tears were blurring my vision and the laughter straining my stomach muscles.

With any new form of medical treatment, the first time it's applied is always the most expensive. Ask the relatives of Barney Clark or Bill Schroeder if they minded their loved ones being the "guinea pigs" for the artificial heart, which has saved countless lives while the recipients wait for donor hearts for transplant. Their surgeries were hellishly expensive, but Humana (at the time a hospital chain) ate the costs. Those two men are heroes, and someday Barbaro will be equally a hero to horse owners everywhere. Trouble is, horses don't have ginormous medical corporations picking up the check.

The Jacksons could afford this kind of care. And that makes all the difference.

    1. UPenn is a private institution. No direct funding from the government, though grants aplenty.
    2. Why would the state pony up any cash, anyway? Barbaro didn't make the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania any money. OK, with all the pilgrims flocking to Kennett Square, maybe Chester County will have a little better year tax-wise, all of a few grand.

Wonder how many kids in the Sudan, Somalia or Appalachia, for that matter, could have been immunized for the money spent to make, produce, distribute and promote Dreamgirls?

I have very little tolerance for the cost-benefit idea on this thread. I know this muich about life on earth. If people didn't love animals and go to irrational lengths to express it, the money saved would NOT go to the benefit of mankind. We'd treat each other infinitely worse than we do already.

Still wondering Gee how many of these animals are equal to humans are vegetarians - or eat their burgers burdened with so much guilt they have constant post-lunch indigestion.

    Best-loved horse? I'd say Trigger.

Didn't Roy Rogers stuff Trigger and put him in a museum? Hope he didn't do the same thing to himself or Dale Evans.

The Four Horsemen were pretty beloved by Notre Dame fans, weren't they?

    Other beloved horses:

    Hoss Cartwright
SMU's Pony Express (Dickerson and James)
    Jason Steed
    Colt McCoy

Mr. Ed is still aces in my book. Wilbur had to have had him stuffed.
