I'm watching OTL right now, their lead is Barbaro. I got chills watching him win the Derby.

    OK...I'll bite.

    Fuck off, Shot. ;D

Sorry I ran afoul of the board's non-official thread policeman. I've lurked around here long enough to know that Idaho's reaction was suprising, since he's generally one of the board's most easy-going people. He wrote something that pissed me off, I posted a reply or two. He's big enough to fight his own battles. You don't need to get your panties in a twist because I don't have 10,000 posts next to my name. People like you, the self-appointed guardian of the board's integrity, are the reason why I generally don't bother to post much.

I wasn't trying to be PC (and if you knew me, you'd understand why I find that so hilarious), and I wasn't trying to tell you how to feel. You have a right to your opinion, and judging from the sheer volume of posts you've compiled, you're certainly not shy about expressing it. I grew up around horses, so I guess there's more of a connection to this story for me. It doesn't mean I'm going to be doing any candlellight vigils outside Kennett Square tonight, it just means I was saddened by the news. And I guess I don't understand the point of ridiculing those who feel like I do.

But what do I know? I'm just a newbie. Be sure to PM me when you think I've posted long enough for you to think my opinion matters.

Look...I just want to see the medical bill on this horse.

Then, compare it to REAL needs such as the kid from Haiti who TLC did a documentary on, who had a growth on her face that grew to the size of her head, distorting her nose and mouth and making her look like, basically, an animal.

My point is one's a horse, the other a human being. A lot of people could use a state research hospital to get over major trauma. More power to the university hospital and whatever they learned; but they did so only because it was Barbaro and it was a "veterinary" hospital.

And again, the false comparison pops up.

Did no one take logic at college?

But people spend money on lots of things that could be better spent elsewhere. Why spend a couple million dollars making a piece of shit movie like "Catch and Release" when you could give that to horse-faced kids in Haiti? Why drop 50 grand to let a guide lead you up Mount Everest when you could use that money to feed starving kids in Nepal?

Bottom line is, Barbaro's owners had the cash. How they spent it was their perogative.

You could have only 10 posts and be completely right, or have 8,000 and be DyePack. Numbers are irrelevant. I have no clue what Idaho said -- from what I can tell, that post has been deleted -- so I'm staying out of this. Agree on your other points about Barbaro.

Anyway, it's a shame to hear about Barbaro. RIP.

I'd be the exhibit for the inverse proportion theory. Anyhoo, there may be some over-the-top grieving about Barbaro. But presuming to say how somebody should grieve or what they should grieve about is more over the top. And the "money that was spent on Barbaro could have gone toward..." arguments are utterly absurd.

This will sound crasser than I mean for it to, but some smart writer has been visiting Barbaro for the past eight months, and he has earned the trust of the folks down there, and he was there for the death, and he will now set about writing a short, occasionally beautiful, sometimes overwrought book that will sell a bajillion copies. And I wish I was that writer.

I think it's the one on the bottom. The guy who's going to name his first kid Barbaro. There's being bummed .. and then there's this. Two ends of a spectrum, I'd say. Naming your dog or cat Barbaro, that's one thing ... Naming your kid, that's a bit much.
