Why must the same Jackasses troll the threads on a constant basis. It's as if they either have no life or no friends. It's pathetic.
Back to the subject at hand, Barry Bonds is a great player. I will not deny that. He is not a great person which is sad. People want to like Barry. He goes out of his way to create a world where its him against the world.
Hank isn't Mr. Personality by any means. He had gruff moments as a player and later as an executive with the Braves, which is where most of my dealing with him have been. However, over the years, he has mellowed. I respect his stance of not being there for the record when Bonds breaks it.
Oh and for those who have a problem, there wasn't anything Willie Mays couldn't do that Hank Aaron couldn't do. Willie played in the media capital of the world, New York. He was flashy. Aaron played in Milwaukee and then Atlanta, not exactly places where people flocked for action.

You have to go to the end to find it, but Bonds denies ever talking with Selig, much less asking about Aaron.

I did ask him Wednesday night, though, about one report out of Atlanta. In his Tuesday column in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Terence Moore quotes Aaron as saying, "The commissioner told me that (Bonds) has asked him several times why I haven't contacted him.'"

    True?

"I've never talked to Bud, ever," Bonds* told me. "You know what this is all about. We don't even have to talk about it. It's all negative. Everything about me is negative.

"You know that, bro. I don't even care. My family is taken care of. I'm going to have a great life when this is all over."

Moore and the AJC should be ashamed for publishing such garbage without checking that fact beforehand. The whole story (essentially an attack on Bonds) was built around that third-hand quote.

And his PEDs are much better than anything available back in Aaron's day.

Bonds could be full of shit, too, but you're right... nowhere near enough to base a column on.

Do you suppose just possibly Barry Bonds might *lie* to make himself look better?

    You think?

    Maybe??

Ok, but give the columnist one first. Yes, Bonds could have lied. But to base a column on a third-hand comment? Aaron said that Selig told him that Bonds said....are you kidding me?

But it flies for you because you hate Bonds that much?

And anybody who puts one in Bonds' earhole better be firing them at Giambi, too. I know there's no record involved, but he's also a cheat. Sheffield, too. Let's line 'em all up and gun them down. Hey, the Yankees and Tigers are contenders. Shouldn't we be beaning Giambi and Sheffield to keep them from getting rings?

No, you can't presume Bonds is lying. Maybe Aaron was lying? Maybe Selig was lying? Maybe there was confusion as the story got relayed over time. That's the problem when you premise an entire story on a third-hand quote. It was foolish, foolish journalism to take something that Hank Aaron said that Selig said that Bonds said and try to base an entire story on it without so much as checking the fact with Selig or Bonds. Disgraceful on the part of Moore and the AJC. Awful, indefensible journalism.

Frank Robinson and Hank Aaron, superior players to Bonds, were indeed gruff, though Frank could be the athletic definition of asshole. But they both, Aaron more so, put up with shit that Bonds has no idea about. They're excused, not because of their greatness as ball players, but because of the times they grow up and matured in.\Bonds is a spoiled, rich weak minded and weak hearted person. There is no excuse for his dismal bevaior. He was brought up the child of wealth and privilege, and spare me the bit about daddy being an alcoholic, big fucking deal, welcome to America bobby bitch, the landof the 12-step program.

As far as the Willie v. Hank argument. Willie played in New York and San Fran, known for their racial tolerance as much as any large cities in America during the 50's, 60's and 70's. Aaron's career in Atlanta and Milwaukee was different, and worse. He put up with much worse shit than Willie ever did. Besides, until Willie retired, he was the white man's idea of a black player, Willie never opened his mouth but to smile but Hank was full of fire and vinegar.

Are you discounting Bonds' accomplishments out of a belief (rightly so) that he used performance enhancers? Otherwise, I'm not sure you can say either of those guys was a superior player to Bonds. Well, you can say it, but I don't think it is accurate.

Most of your character shots hold up just fine, though I wouldn't call Bonds weak-minded. Amoral, spoiled and foul-tempered, definitely, but not weak-minded.
