Barry Bonds hacked off at Hank Aaron.

Sorry, but it's hard to take your comments seriously given that Aaron inspired the man, who inspired the pants, who inspired your name. How can you be objective?

I keep seeing these comments about Bonds spitefully walking off in mid-season, just before or after breaking the record.

It reminds me that we have gotten way past any rational discussion about the man. He's just the devil incarnate now.

I still see Bonds as an arrogant, rude prick with tremendous pride in his athletic accomplishments and a powerful desire to be the best ever. Combine that arrogance and desire and you get the use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Unless he is stopped by his legal issues or injury, I would be absolutely shocked if Bonds walked away before breaking the record. Even walking right after getting the record but before the end of the season would surprise me.

Bonds is not a good guy. Never has been. But it is amazing to me how many people no longer see anything but that.

I also like good, honorable people and despise douchebags who cheat. On a much lower level, I don’t like lazy reporting.

It was more convenient for the AJC not to confirm with Bonds because the story would have been dead had he denied making such comments. I think it's worse than lazy.

First off, remember that ESPN made the AJC look bad. Moore has never been a great columnist or reporter. He made the paper save face and that's about it.

Back on topic, I particularly liked the end of the column...

Bonds is far, far too arrogant and spiteful not to break the record. He may retire after hitting 756 but I doubt it. His pride and arrogance know no bounds and he knows that breaking the record would be the biggest middle finger he could ever give to his detractors.

No way he doesn't break the record. He's already talking about sticking around for 3,000 hits for uncle Willie.

I don't see it that way.

If Bonds denied saying anything, then you've got him basically calling Selig a liar, which makes things even more interesting.

    And one more thing . . .

I seem to recall it taking Bonds a week or more to either catch or pass Ruth last year.

Baseball is not like football, where a running back 12 yards short of a record is pretty sure to get it the next game.

Someone who agrees to "be there for the record" could be crisscrossing the country 2-3 times waiting for it to happen.

I wouldn't expect anyone to do that.

The NY Times will be there. Guaranteed.

The reason he (allegedly) took the clear, HGH, whatever, was to break records. The reason he is playing this year is to break the record. So why would he suddenly stop short? Stop trying to put rational thoughts into an irrational (and highly egomaniacal) person.
