Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot Released

    I think they're both HOF, but to say they were dominant at their positions after the first couple years of their careers is a stretch.

    I will agree that each was dominant for their entire career in one area of their games: Gwynn's BA and Ripken's durability.

    That's fair enough.

    Of course, that's Hall of Fame-enough, too.

    (Not like they weren't great ballplayers in many aspects of the game, though. But Gwynn's batting eye and Ripken's 400-HR, 3,000-hit consistency/durability both put them in Cooperstown, regardless of how "dominant" they were or weren't.)

    actually ripken's best year -- by far -- came in his 10th season both offensively and defensively.

    ripken also "outranged" the rest of the league for the better part of his career.

    A MVP year always trumps any other season to me.

    But, it was a blip of life in his career... true.
