And he lost more than 300 damn games and gave up more runs than any pitcher in history. :)

You guys better be careful. Jon Heyman is intrigued by your ideas and wishes to subscribe to your newsletter.

Also, Cy Young never won a World Series. And Heyman considers "impact," not "stats". How much impact could the guy have had?

  3. Zeke, considering your loyalties, I'm surprised you don't think Jim Kaat deserved more support.

Well, if they're serious about putting Morris in, Kitty Kaat was a much better pitcher than he was.

    15 gold gloves, too.

  5. He probably got saddled with the "longevity" disparagement.

I'm not sure that's a great one, though. Isn't consistency over a long time valued in a pitcher? Or shouldn't it be more than it is? I know it's not precisely measurable, but to be able to make 30 or more starts year after year after year into your late 30s, and pitch effectively, puts your team in a tremendous position when building a staff.

And that is the Mussina, Blyleven and Kaat side of the fence (which I reside).

Incorrect, Zeke (words I never thought I'd type).

Young was part of the Boston Pilgrims (predecessor of the Red Sox) World Series team that captured the first Series in 1903.

It's stat nerds like you who are ruining baseball, Bird.

(I go to the box, two minutes. I feel shame.)

Threw the first pitch in World Series history and went 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA in four appearances. :)
