Because football has universal appeal and baseball is interminable unless you have a rooting interest.

San Diego is also a large market and Pittsburgh, while not huge, is still top 25.

Relative to the rest of MLB, Pittsburgh is a small market.

Game 4 beat Sunday Night Football in the ratings, 10.1 to 8.2. Of course, a 62-7 ass-whipping by the Saints had a lot to do with it. Game 3 won the night over college football, too.

    I thought
I thought St. Louis was a national appeal team.

St. Louis is a very strong regional appeal team, but for an older demographic than 18-49.

But unless this thing TOTALLY parallels the Mavs, it's going seven.

Steelers have a huge national following. There are some NFL teams that do well everywhere, and they're one of them.

There's been a Steelers bar in just about every town I've been to. I remember being in Albuquerque one Sunday trying to catch a Skins-Giants game and the entire bar was filled with Steelers memorabilia.

Very interesting read. The problem lies in the fact that some still believe baseball is the national pastime. Well, it's not really a problem but it kind of sways judgement. This year's Series may very well be the best one since 2001, especially if it goes seven games. But baseball and Selig HAVE to pay attention to ratings because it correlates with revenue.
