Rosenthal says the Royals are the leading suitor for Francoeur, Nick Johnson to the Mets is very possible and that the Red Sox would listen to offers for prized arm Daniel Bard.

Nelly Cruz for Bard straight up.

If the Rangers want help like Danys Baez, George Sherrill, Matt Thornton, Octavio Dotel or Tom Gordon, they better get to them before the Yankees do/will.

In other news, Clay Buchholz carried a perfect game into the ninth yesterday, still toiling in the minors for whatever reason. And the Sox have to activate Smoltz by June 19.

The White Sox are the ones on that list to target, but are they giving them up? All these teams who will be scrambling for relief help should be embarrassed because they could have had Beimel & Cruz for pennies.

    Guy --

Reinsdork said the other day that no one is untouchable.

He being one of the patron saints of the fire sale.

I believe they are looking to move Penny, and after his recent performances, they are going to have some takers interested.

That will allow them to bring up Buchholtz, or activate Smoltz.

Exactly. Though it would be strange to see them go into sell mode shortly after trying to acquire Peavy.

    Braves won't trade Frenchy.

Tell that to the insiders (and blog boys) who are packing his bags. A few of them last week had him being given his release, "according to sources."

I don't think they should trade Francoeur. They need to be more patient with him. He's 25 years old, for heaven's sake.

The White Sox could (hypothetically) trade Ramirez or Getz and not really be that worse off for it, not with blue chipper Gordon Beckham being groomed for a middle infield position in the minors.

It would be hard to get true value on the player he could become. He's still 25.

I feel just freaking dandy about the Cubs chances to snap their losing streak tonight.

    - DLee's cold is worse, and he was sent home this afternoon.
    - Marmol is in New York for the birth of his child, and he isn't expected back until tomorrow.
    - Scales almost as sick as Lee, but he might be available off the bench.

Why would anyone want any of those relievers? All stiffs.

And what happens if Smoltz isn't activated by June 19?
(he won't be, he'll never pitch in Boston)
