Actually, I think the defensive gaffes all belonged to Edwin Jackson. Kind of impressive to see a starter shoot himself in the foot like that.

True. On the last scoring play, Cabrera didn't have a great throw to the plate, which didn't allow Laird a good chance to block the plate and make the tag.

Better throw, could be an out. 3-1 game seems a lot closer than 4-1.

    Feel better? How can I?

Greinke's ERA continues to spiral out of control ... ;D

Finally, first pitch at the Ballpark at 10:30 p.m. ET. Jeter leads off with a single. Let the beating commence.

How often has Trey Hillman taken Greinke out of a game like this? Never. That's five complete games now for Greinke.

Agreed on the Greinkster ... but I stand by the intent of my statement about Hillman (George Brett's defense aside)

I think a lot of the Hillman hating is over the top.

Greinke threw 116 tonight... and I doubt if any of his other complete games were over that. As long as he's in cruise control, why not let him stretch out to 100-115?

I do think one of his completes was a 120 or so effort, but he throws mostly fastballs, so 120's not all that bad.

Anyway, the pertinent Greinke numbers to date:
    1) 8-1
    2) 0.84 ERA
    3) 0.88 WHIP (what!)
    4) Faced 30 batters tonight. Gave up six hits but faced just three over the minimum.

    Wow.

I think he has lost a few games. I know it's nitpicking, but some of his decisions have been breathtaking in their strangeness (see: bullpen usage and most of his pinch-hitting decisions).

EDIT: Then again, as I think of it, you could say he has won a few games, too, by leaving Greinke on the bump.
