Why do the Sox need both LaRoche and Duncan??

I don't quite believe that one...

It does seem like a bit much. They now have Kotsay, LaRoche, Youkilis and Bailey all eligible to play first base. Their outfield is also stacked, too. Me thinks they aren't done yet.

Here's a link to the trade.

    Well, crud, here's a link:

    Sending Duncan to Triple-A.

I suppose just getting anything for Lugo is good.

St. Louis is paying? I don't get this.

I thought the Sox released Lugo last week?

The link I found says the Red Sox will pay the remainder of Lugo's contract.

They designated him for assignment, thus giving the Red Sox 10 days (I think?) to trade him or release him.

They designated him for assignment, which meant they had 10 days to trade or release him.

I believe Guy was referring to the boston.com link, which suggested the trade was Lugo for Duncan and cash considerations.

Ah, gotcha. I haven't read the other story yet. This is weird, though. I'm not sure if the Sox are just being overly cautious about Lowell's injury or if they are stacking up to get Halladay or what.

Once again, Chris Carpenter is dealing; and against a Houston team that everyone has had their eyes on lately.
