Wise's glove better get half the credit for this one.

First perfect Sox game since 1922.

    Awesome.
That catch by Dewayne Wise was great in its own right, but to save what turned out to be a perfect game might make it the best I've ever seen. He had to cover a ton of ground; he robbed the homer; and then the juggling, falling down finish to hang on. Kudos, sir.

Like a couple others said, I've never seen someone a pitcher work as quickly as Buehrle.
And can anyone else remember a no-hitter saving catch as good as Wise's in recent memory?

Very cool. I'm annoyed that I missed it. Looking forward to seeing the replay of the catch.

Ellsbury's diving catch was pretty fucking good during Jon Lester's no-hitter.

Not a homer-saving catch, but a damn difficult one.

And Aaron Rowand made a very tough catch at the wall to save Sanchez's no-hitter in the ninth inning earlier this month.

    witt
    browning
    d. martinez

I'm thinking they're counting Ward and Richmond as "pre modern era." In 1880, pitchers threw underhanded, the mound was closer, and there were all kinds of other crazy rules that made baseball of that time hardly similar to today's game.

MLB counts them. Why shouldn't we?

    18 perfect games.

Buehrle's presser getting cut short because of a call from the White House. Nice.

I know people hate the Hawk, but his call of the last out was pretty damn awesome.

Buck, you were at the two 1880s perfect games. What were they like?
