Still too dismissive. Hitting for power and stealing bases are nearly as important as avoiding outs, which he did to an absolutely fantastic degree.

 

Again. Good player. Not $10 million a year good in 2000, but good.

 

I think Rick is right: In retrospect, it wasn't a complete waste of money. Would it be nice if he hit 20 bombs a couple times? Sure. But he was an asset for a long time. It's not necessarily his fault management sucks ass and had to dump him in order to begin the 27th rebuilding project since 1992.

 

Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel will be fired soon, b/c lil' Jeffy Wilpon has reportedly said they are safe:

Actually not too worried about Minaya's future, since he apparently has the Jedi Mind Trick working on the idiot fucking Wilpons.

 

Eric Hinske just homered again for the Yankees. Four homers among his seven hits. He's like an AL version of Garrett Jones!!!

 

And speaking of Eric Hinske (God bless that guy), the Phillies offense is freaking sizzling right now.

Complete waste of money? No. He wasn't Derek "Operation Shutdown" Bell or Pat Meares. Those were complete wastes of money.

But they bid against themselves and overpaid for the guy's popularity rather than his skills. Teams with such a small payroll can't afford to do that. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
