Your exactly right, it isn't necessary for the common fan, everyday talk.

Sure, it may help GMS, but none of us here (or out in the real world) are GMs. Fans enjoy what makes baseball great - the simplicity.

Plus, as spnited as said many times on here, baseball isn't played on a computer. It's played on the field with human beings. There is human element.

Look, on threads that are about somebody, I'm willing to be a tad more lenient about making fun of that person.
To post such a picture on a baseball thread that had nothing to do with said person, and then watch a few more chime in (including said person) and suddenly we're not talking about baseball.

But stat freaks make a simple game very very very complicated and I'm not sure why they'd want to do that.
Simplicity is part of the beauty of the game. I throw it and you try to hit it somewhere we can't catch it.

I don't understand the anger - maybe mod was saying this tongue in cheek, but I read it a lot of other times here.

Its batting average with balls in play. A stat that many people find some use for. But the anti-Beane crowd GETS SO ANGRY over stats like this - why?

Its like you hear a stat and you turn into Zag.

Yeah, the "over the top" anger was pretty much tongue in cheek.
But it really does baffle me. It's not a "stat" - it is a SABR-created number.

THOSE are stats. The rest is bullshit.
