I disagree. The strategy was, take on a bunch of low risk high reward players & hope that some of them pan out. They did (Saito, Baldelli).

You obviously haven't been looking at the other trades the Indians have made. They'll take spare parts at this point. [/bitter]

According to Stark today, the Red Sox are looking for a third team to dump the suddenly irrelevant LaRoche on, and also, apparently, to increase the number of available prospects. (psssst the Indians would take Buchholz and LaRoche...if either of them wanted to just not get paid).

Do you think the D'backs overreacted by releasing Russ Ortiz?

C'mon, just because last night's start that spanned 2.1 innings produced a one-game ERA of 34.71 and WHIP of 5.143 doesn't mean he sucks, right?

Good trade for the Mariners, dumping a grossly overcompensated Boras client who is essentially a career .500 pitcher with a plus-4 ERA, with little upside at 35 years of age. He had a nice little run the past three months which goes against everything he did in the first 10 or so years of his career.

Or check out his starts from say, this decade.

Oh, I know. I picked up Ortiz 2 months ago, and he was solid for me for 4-5 starts. Today I look at my team's stats, and in red letters is the word RELEASED next to Ortiz's name. I look at last night's stats and am amused.

He had, like, one solid season with the Giants (18-7 or so) and has been absolute dreck ever since.

No link for this one yet, but Orlando Cabrera to the Twins for minor leaguer Tyler Ladendorf is apparently a done deal.

That's a pile of reasons why the Indians probably won't be able to get a bucket of sunflower seeds for Victor right now.

It pains me to say that. He's the closest thing the Indians have had to a clubhouse leader in the last six or seven years.

    Did they need a SS?

Those are both pretty underwhelming returns for Washburn and Cabrera.
