Their starting middle infield Wednesday was Nick Punto, who his batting .208, and Alexei Casilla, whose average soared up to .171 with two hits. I think that qualifies as a yes to your question.

He may be 106-106 for his career before this season, but bolstering a rotation with a guy whose ERA this season is 2.64 is a solid move. It is about the here and now. Sure, the Tigers give up young talent, but that young talent hasn't played a single inning in the bigs yet. It'll be a few years before they do anything, if they do anything.

    Punto's hitting .208/.318/.250/.568

He's somehow managed an OBP of .318 despite walking 36 times in 266 plate appearances. How, I have no idea.

    But he is atrocious.

I really like that move for the Twins. They desperately needed help in the middle infield. Cabrera seems to wear out his welcome everywhere he goes, but is a solid hitter and defender who was a fairly big part of Boston's World Series run in 2004.

    I'm with you, Xan.

I like Washburn and Cabrera as deadline pickups; each should considerably help their new teams. What I'm saying is that the Mariners and A's didn't get much of anything in return.

Sometimes you just want to move the merchandise, any "returns" bedamned.

Victor Martinez to the Red Sox...well, almost a done deal.

Is it still a straight up deal for Buchholz?

"Almost" isn't that much different than what I posted from Stark earlier.
