Jerry Hairston, Jr. to the Yankees. Goodbye Cody Ransom?

Eh, there are plenty of people on here who don't like me. At least most of them have the guts to do it under their real handle.

Yes, they're loaded up. LaRoche is the odd man out.

I just don't see picking up a vet like Martinez as a bad move.

Someone a page or two back said Lowell is a shadow of himself, yet he has a 9-game hitting streak (13 for 32, HR, 9 RB) and has raised his average from .285 to .295 since July 17.

The thing I notice from that is that he came through college at Rice, which of late has been producing some pretty good talent. Jeff Niemann was an Owl, and while he's only the Rays No.5 starter, he has the best record in the rotation right now at 9-5, and has been getting progressively better as his rookie season has gone on. His ERA of 3.81 is the second-best in the rotation right now.

I'm not saying that matters anything as it relates to Price, but it seems like they've been doing a good job developing pitchers there.

That's not all that much of an upgrade. They better not have given up anything. Is it that hard to find a backup 3b who can give you league average production, or at least something close?

Right--they're just loaded with first basemen/DH types, which are useless because it doesn't give them much flexibility or help where they need it (shortstop, and a warm body to replace J.D. Drew)...Martinez was something they already had plenty of, he doesn't do it significantly better, and they gave up decent pieces of their future.

Maybe it's as simple as getting insurance at catcher and nothing else.

Scott Rolen to the Reds, pending his OK? http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/mlb_trade_talk/posts/72843-blue-jays-trade-3b-rolen-to-reds

Bizarre move. I guess the Reds think they have a chance or something.
