This is the worst Braves' pen during the entire Cox-Schuerholz era.

The last week or 10 days, the grouchy, grumpy, pissy, moany Leyland has reappeared.

After all the crap about his "crafty" "experienced" "veteran leadership" and "savvy," hailing every single thing he's done so far this season as a sign of unimpeachable baseball genius (like it takes some strategic wizard to tell your players to go pitch shutouts and hit home runs), I wondered when ole Jimmy Sunshine was gonna return.

My humble apologies. The word has been permanently stricken from my vocabulary.

BYH fave Chris Young AGAIN flirts with a no-hitter, though it was against the Pirates so it shouldn't count (hi Oz and Markvid :D). He allowed three hits and no runs in 16 IP this week. I think he wins Player of the Week. Nice trade, Rangers! That's brilliant, giving up a 6-foot-10 27-year-old who throws 94.

Yeah, but the Rangers got Adam Eaton, who hasn't thrown a pitch this season and is in his walk year. ;)

I have to admit I'm beginning to sweat a little. Good thing I didn't plunk down $25 on that Braves T-shirt I really liked at the Nashville airport the other day!

And he's got a very solid back-to-the-basket low post game.

It's still early. The Braves are still going to win the East.

The Braves thru 5/31 the last 5 years:
    2005: 28-23, T1st
    2004: 25-25, 3rd, 4 1/2 GB
    2003: 37-18, 1st, +4
    2002: 30-25, 1st, + 1/2
    2001: 26-26, 2nd, 8 GB

I just know that sometime during the Sunday Night game, Moe Jorgan is going to condescendingly explain that the reason for the Angels' suckiness has been that Darin Erstad has been injured and out of the lineup. :-X ::)

Some of the fun stuff I learned from ESPN's No. 1 baseball crew tonight.

    1. The Angels really had the Yanks' backs against the wall in last year's ALDS, but the Yanks came back to win the last two games and take the ALDS. At least, according to Miller (but not according to my ESPN 2005 Almanac!)

    2. Bartolo Colon would have been the difference against those Yanks had he been able to play, at least according to Morgan, who apparently has the same memory of events that Miller has.

    3. "The Angels have not been the same team since winning the World Series. For one thing, they gave up Jose Guillen and his 100 RBIs." Well, damn, Morgan, how much did Guillen help the Angels in winning the WS, since he WASN'T EVEN ON THE TEAM YET! Not to mention, the Angels won 95 games and the division last year -- something they didn't do in 02.

    4. The Angels should trade their up-and-coming pitcher, Santana, for Carl Crawford because every-day players are harder to come by than starting pitchers -- at least according to Morgan.

Good grief, these morons should be calling paintball, not baseball!!

  12. Do you think people are making too big a deal about Lastings Milledge slapping hands with the crowd as he headed back out to his position in right fileld following his game-tying homer?
