Casty, as near as I can tell, Beckett's fastball doesn't move around as much as its velocity would indicate it would. Ergo, when it's improperly located, ka-boom! Beckett's alternated between outstanding and non-existent control all season, with correspondingly large swings in performance.

on YES Network, known to spnited as al-Yankezzera, they said Beckett's breaking pitches were really flat and the Yanks teed off on him.

So who would be the modern Mario Mendoza? Anyone want to offer up a sacrifical lamb? (not Mike though)

Clint Barmes seems to want to alternate between league leader and Mendoza.

Doug Eddings just made another horrific call that costs the Angels. He called Juan Rivera out at second, claiming his had left the bag even though replays showed it wasn't even close. Of course, Eddings was in the wrong position on the play.

    No wonder someone has started...

It's funny. I watched last night's game on al-Douchezzera and Beckett was throwing nothing but heat.

I think the Bernie RBI single was on a breaking pitch. Other than that, he was throwing straight-as-an-arrow heat, and any major leaguer can hit 97 mph if it's on a straight line.

Time for the Padres to grin and bear it and finally put Jake Peavy on the DL. One of the best pitchers in baseball is getting lit up again. He gave up five runs and didn't make it out of the 4th inning against the Brewers today. Trying to pitch through tendinitis in his throwing shoulder just isn't working. This guy is way too good to have a 4.56 ERA.

Padres fans should thank the WBC because their ace hasn't been right all season after messing up his spring training for a glorified exhibition.

He'll have 'em throwing into turned-over garbage cans in practice any day now.

Wait ... can the Royals hit the cutoff man now?
