Sorry, I was listening to Milo. He said it was in the Boxes. Of course Milo doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about half the time.

Quality move to start Jones against a lefty and rest him against a righty.

And no point in Dusty using Nevin as PH in a one-run game...

    fucking idiot.

I don't necessarily buy a couple parts of that argument. I think college coaches have a pretty good idea of what's doing in their states and beyond. Of course, there will always be guys like Roy Oswalt who slips through almost every crack and eludes Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss, but I'd bet that major colleges have a pretty good idea what's going on. The major league teams have the advantage of drafting 50 guys a year and tolerating a bunch of washouts. Even if schools benefit from major league scouting to point them in the direction of talent, with only 11.7 scholarships to hand out for an entire team it's still difficult to convince a lot of guys to go to good old State U.[/ronpolkrantnumberone]

OK, those who know more than me, which is just about everyone:

I have a strategy question. I'm pretty sure I just witnessed a stupid decision.

Nats bring in Gary Majewski for the last out of the seventh, which he gets pretty easily.

They're up 3-2 and they add two more in the top of the eighth. Bases loaded, two outs. Frank sends Majewski UP TO BAT.

He actually got his bat on the ball and Francouer had to run to make the catch. Still. At least three hitters still available.

I figured Majewski would get lit in the eighth but he actually threw the ball well and had a 1-2-3 inning.

    Hey Moddy,

I had to make a priority pitching move, and since O'Connor has worked out so well, I thought I'd give Sean Hill a flyer until Clemens rejoins the Majors. So, what's this Hill kid all about?

    Sincerely,
    Xan.

Eh. He looked great his first time out, not so great yesterday. He might work as a stop gap but O'Connor has eight starts now that don't suck. One great one, the others the "keep you in the game" type of starts. Of course, he has a five-start winless streak.

In short, I'm still undecided on Hill.

If Cordero gets one more out, Ramon Ortiz has five Ws in a row. And there it is, Cordero has looked quite good since Francouer slammed him last month.

6-3 road trip, now home for 11 games. Look out world!

    Umpire chest bumps Rockies' Hurdle

Colorado wins 16-9, but sounds ugly.

There was no further contact, however, and Hurdle and King both went to the clubhouse as Mesa got the final two outs in Colorado's 16-9 win over Pittsburgh that featured 11 pitchers, 16 walks and 364 pitches, 155 of which were balls.

  7. Is Kenny Ray the new closer in Atlanta? He's got 3 saves in his last 7 appearences. Is Reitsma and his 7.20 ERA on the outs? Is this a closer by committee deal?

And Moddy - keeping Nicolas Cage I mean Gary Majewski in the game was a good move by Robinson. He was up by 3 and Majewski is still looking for his first MLB hit never mind first RBI. It was a confidence boost for majewski just to bat - it would have been a team lifting experience if Majewski actually came through with his first hit (and it didn't cost Robinson anything).

How 'bout those Cincinnati Reds. Taking six of six against the Astros and Cards on the road.

    That's freaking huge.

Is it too early to tout Wayne Krivsky as GM of the year?

I see that and it is valid - and Majewski did throw a great eighth. Still, made me wonder.
He does look like Cage, doesn't he?

I think Ray is indeed now closing in Atlanta, the AJC may have done a story on it earlier. I think Cox made it "official" when Reitsma couldn't hold a two-run deficit. Gave up two home runs.
