I take his opinion on this only a bit more seriously than Schilling's on the election. He didn't do anything wrong, because he was asked a question & gave his answer, but his job is not to make these kinds of decisions, and with good reason.

There is a very good reason catchers become managers with a high frequency.

    Whacko response to Posada's words.

Peter Gammons mentioned on OTL today that Josh Johnson is the NL East's best pitcher.

Must have been a slip, seeing as Johan Santana and Cole Hamels are both in the division. Maybe he meant best young pitcher. Then again, I'm not sure he's the best young pitcher on his team (Nolasco).

Combine that with his recent backing of Jose Reyes for MVP, and I'm not sure what Petey's been smoking.

Joe Torre, Ron Santo and Gil Hodges are among 10 players on the latest Hall of Fame ballot for Veterans Committee voters.

Dick Allen, Jim Kaat and Luis Tiant are on the list, made up of major leaguers whose careers began in 1943 or later. Tony Oliva, Al Oliver, Vada Pinson and Maury Wills also were among the candidates announced Tuesday
