Trading a bunch of young guys for Peavy wasn't exactly the way to start in that direction.

Or getting stuck with Alex Rios' contract, which runs through 2014.

Other than that, though, things are OK, right?

Well, they traded pitchers, who might turn out to be pretty good, but given that I was talking about the offense, I'm guessing none of them would have provided much in place of players like Thome, Konerko and Dye.

And I already mentioned Rios in my original post. Try to keep up, guys.

Also among Ken Williams' mistakes: Acquiring Alex Rios.

The day Joe Buck stops broadcasting will be one of the happiest days of my life. What a pretentious d***wad.

It could be interesting to see the AL Cy Young race. Greinke and King Felix aren't seen on a regular basis by most voters while Halladay, Verlander and Beckett have had some stinkers recently. Forget Edwin Jackson - people won't vote for him because they think he's an aberration.

Does that open the door for a Mo Rivera lifetime achievement Cy Young groundswell? Gagne and Eckersley both had 50+ saves and sub 2.00 ERA's - the type of numbers that Rivera will probably end up with. If no starter breaks 20-wins - I think this scenario is very likely.

Speaking of the Yankees, I turned on the White Sox game this afternoon right as Steve Stone was saying that Jeter was on the brink of becoming the greatest Yankee ever. Any thoughts, baseball fans?

As Terence Mann once intoned, "Do we have a learning disability here?"

I was set to rattle off a couple of Yankees that would kick Stone's ass for that, but Simon put it better.
