    Sorry Modster.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nationals acting general manager Mike Rizzo says rookie right-hander Jordan Zimmermann probably needs reconstructive elbow surgery.

    Question.

If a guy has a hitting streak and walks in each plate appearance in a game, is the hitting streak considered over?

    Nope. Still on.

    Oy.

Better than tearing a labrum, obviously, but still a huge blow for the Nats.

So, Chris Coghlan is on an eight-game streak of consecutive games with at least two hits.

If he goes 1 for 1 with three walks in four plate appearances, is THAT streak considered over? Rennie Stennett has the rookie record of nine consecutive such games.

You've got a little mancrush on Coghlan, don't you, Simon?

Yes, that streak would be considered over. The rulebook only covers "consecutive game hitting streaks," not those kinds of statistical oddities (such as hitting for the cycle, etc.) That's not really a "real" record, just a feat.

Not to take anything away from the accomplishment, of course; multihit games are impressive. But if he plays a game and doesn't get two hits ... he doesn't get two hits, so that one's over.

How did Rios slip through waivers that easily? I'd assume he'd have his share of suitors.
