Anybody in Philly still disappointed they had to settle for the "consolation prize" of getting a reigning Cy Young winner after not landing Halladay?

I don't care how well the Angels are hitting. Scioscia will still find a way to overmanage them into a first-round exit.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

Where is Gwinnett? That sounds like someone's girlfriend from Gone With The Wind.

    Close.

Button Gwinnett was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Gwinnett County is borders Fulton County, north of Atlanta.

What a couple of scrubs. They'll never amount to anything in the show.

The Angels will get out of the first round if they can avoid Boston. Playing them gives Scioscia some kind of idea that he can get chicken salad out of chicken shit like Jarrod Washburn, Erick Aybar and Reggie Willits.

Rizzo staying put in Washington. Glad they didn't make the mistake of booting him.

Also, Yahoo! and CBSSports need to find better sources.

Marlins had 10+ hits for the 15th consecutive game. First time that's been done since the 1937 St. Louis Browns. Wow.

The record's 18, by the way.

Note that's all over Twins coverage today:

The only players other than Joe Mauer to have a .380 batting average with at least 25 homers this late in the season are Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.

Saw that note on ESPN and MLB Net on Tuesday night....through at least 120 team games.
Mr. Softie running with the big boys.

And this after missing all of Spring Training and the first month of the season. Amazing.

I know this is unfair because there is no way to know if Mauer could have sustained the same pace if he had played in April, but I'll toss this out there anyway.

Mauer missed 25 of the Twins 120 games and he has 366 at-bats this season. That puts him on a pace for 462 at-bats so far if he had been able to play in those first 25 games (assuming he gets the same amount of rest as he has gotten so far this season).

He currently has 25 home runs and 77 RBI. Assuming he hit at the same rate from the start of the season instead of May 1, that would give him 32 home runs (one more than AL leaders Carlos Pena and Mark Teixeira) and 97 RBI (three more than AL leader Justin Morneau). Just amazing what this guy is doing, especially as a catcher.
